A Kimono Day at the Cinema — Watching Kokuho

Yesterday, we had a small outing with the Kimono Club and went to the cinema together to watch Kokuho.

I was honestly very touched by the film.
It left a strong impression on me, especially the depth and atmosphere of the kabuki world. It made me want to experience it in real life when I’m in Japan next time.

The weather in Germany was very typical — it was sunny for a moment, but by the time the movie ended, it had already turned cloudy again.

Even though it’s still quite cold, I really wanted to wear my kimono. I chose a hitoe tsukesage with Heian-era figures, as I felt it matched the atmosphere of the film. To keep the overall look more understated, I paired it with a fukuro obi depicting a view of Kyoto.

This time, three members came in kimono, and we also had one new participant joining us in Western clothes.
Even though our seats in the cinema were separate, it still felt special knowing we were all sharing the same experience.

After the movie, a few of us continued the day at a nearby café — talking, relaxing, and enjoying the slow pace together.

It was a simple outing, but these small moments are exactly what I appreciate about the club.
