It’s Waka-Ayu Season! A Cozy June Kimono Kai with Homemade Treats and Good Company

June 11, 2026

Handmade Food, Early Summer Wagashi, and a Warm Afternoon Together

Thank you very much to everyone who joined our June Kimono Kai.

This time, M-san kindly prepared delicious homemade kimbap for us. She woke up at 5:00 in the morning to make it, as Korean food takes a lot of time and care to prepare. We are truly grateful for her effort and generosity.

Sharing a meal together while talking about kimono, daily life, and small updates made the gathering feel very warm and relaxed. There is something special about coming together in kimono — even an ordinary afternoon becomes a little more memorable.

For dessert, I prepared waka-ayu, a seasonal Japanese sweet often enjoyed in early summer. This version was filled with soft gyūhi and sweet bean paste. I was very happy to hear that everyone enjoyed it.

After lunch, we also went to a nearby photo spot to take some pictures. Taking photos in kimono is always a lovely part of the gathering, and it is nice to have memories of the day captured together.

Some of the photos did not turn out as expected this time, but that is also part of the experience. Next time, it might be fun to share small tips on posing, angles, and how to make kimono look beautiful in photos.

I am currently planning next month’s Kimono Kai.

The theme for the next gathering will be kimono coordination. If you have any questions or concerns about how to combine kimono and obi, colors, patterns, or accessories such as obiage and obijime, please feel free to send them to me in advance.

On the day, I hope to answer everyone’s questions while sharing practical tips on how to create balanced and beautiful kimono coordinations.

Thank you again to everyone who joined, and a special thank you to M-san for preparing such wonderful food.

I look forward to seeing you again at the next Kimono Kai.
