Under the Autumn Moon: A Tsukimi Gathering

As summer gently gives way to autumn, the moon becomes the centre of one of Japan’s most poetic seasonal traditions: Tsukimi, the custom of gathering to admire and appreciate the autumn moon.

For its second gathering, Biyori Days invites you to experience Tsukimi through Japanese-inspired table styling, traditional craftsmanship and a contemporary table tea ceremony. Together, we will explore how a seasonal story can be expressed through thoughtful arrangements, natural materials, handcrafted details and the quiet preparation of matcha.

Rather than simply observing the season, this afternoon invites you to experience it with your own hands—from styling a Tsukimi table and crafting a traditional kumiko coaster to whisking and enjoying your own bowl of matcha.

A calm and creative autumn gathering designed to help you slow down, connect with the season and discover the beauty of Japanese hospitality. No previous experience in table styling, woodworking or tea ceremony is necessary.

[Tsukimi Table Styling Lesson]
Begin with an introduction to Japanese-inspired table styling centred around the theme of Tsukimi. Learn how colours, textures, tableware and seasonal elements can be thoughtfully combined to create a harmonious setting and tell a story around the table.

[Hands-on Kumiko Coaster Making]
Discover kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking technique in which precisely cut wooden pieces are carefully assembled into delicate geometric patterns without nails. Guided step by step, you will create your own kumiko coaster to use during the tea ceremony and take home afterwards.

[Table Tea Ceremony Workshop]
Gather around the completed table for an approachable table-style tea ceremony. You will learn about the meaning and basic etiquette of Japanese tea ceremony before preparing and whisking your own bowl of matcha. The tea will be enjoyed with Tsukimi-inspired dango and cheesecake.

[Seasonal Treats and Gifts to Take Home]
Your handmade kumiko coaster is yours to keep as a lasting reminder of the afternoon. You will also receive a small matcha gift, inviting you to recreate a quiet tea moment at home.
