{"id":2242,"date":"2026-05-20T16:21:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T16:21:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biyori.de\/?p=2242"},"modified":"2026-05-20T16:21:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T16:21:13","slug":"my-favorite-kimono-stores-in-nagoya-and-beyond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biyori.de\/jp\/kimono\/my-favorite-kimono-stores-in-nagoya-and-beyond\/","title":{"rendered":"My Favorite Kimono Stores in Nagoya and Beyond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One question I get quite often is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhere do you buy your kimono?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So I thought I would share some of my personal favorite places \u2014 both physical shops and online stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since we are based in Aichi when visiting Japan, most of my recommendations are around Nagoya. I still need to explore Osaka more deeply, although there are many famous kimono shops there as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are simply places I personally enjoy browsing and shopping from \u273f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-komehyo-nagoya-osu-online\">1. Komehyo (Nagoya Osu \/ Online)<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d622.3108403915481!2d136.90044102204988!3d35.15941433002606!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x6003773304380867%3A0x396e17d09c4432ba!2sKomehyo%20Nagoya%20Main%20Store%20Kimono%20Store!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sde!4v1779293721838!5m2!1sen!2sde\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Probably my absolute favorite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">has several pricing sections, which makes browsing quite interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the famous \u00a51-per-gram section<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lower-priced color-coded sections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and a premium kimono area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u00a51-per-gram corner can be fun to look through, but personally, I rarely buy from there anymore. Many pieces are heavily stained, very small, or difficult to wear regularly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The colored price sections tend to have much better finds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>yellow tags around \u00a51,000<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>blue around \u00a52,000<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and so on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But honestly, my favorite section is the premium area starting around \u00a510,000 and above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quality difference becomes very noticeable, and many kimono already have the measurements written clearly, which makes shopping much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing I really appreciate about Komehyo is the staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At one point, I completely fell in love with a kimono from the Kubota Ichiku Kobo, but unfortunately it was not my size. A staff member kindly searched for similar pieces in my measurements instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of my recent purchases there was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a brand-new Nagoya obi with adorable shimaenaga embroidery for around \u00a540,000<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and a universe-colored houmongi for around \u00a532,000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also have an online shop now, which is very convenient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-heiwaya-yahoo-auctions\">2. Heiwaya (Yahoo Auctions)<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">is dangerous for kimono lovers \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They have an enormous selection, and many of my most unique pieces came from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since it operates through Yahoo Auctions, buying there can feel surprisingly competitive. Sometimes you find incredible deals, and sometimes bidding turns into a small battle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of my more expensive kimono purchases from Heiwaya were around \u00a520,000\u201330,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For people outside Japan, you usually need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a proxy service<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or a VPN + Japanese marketplace setup.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They also have a regular online shop, although prices there are generally higher \u2014 more like \u201cbuy-it-now\u201d pricing compared to auctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-daifukuya-osaka-nagoya-osu\">3. Daifukuya (Osaka \/ Nagoya Osu)<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d692.896287411281!2d136.901965265523!3d35.15918108016241!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x6003773351be72ab%3A0xa3cbeaf1eb7fbad1!2sDaifukuya!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sde!4v1779293793337!5m2!1sen!2sde\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">has a main store in Osaka, but they also have a branch in Osu, Nagoya, which I visit quite often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I especially enjoy browsing their online shop because they regularly have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>beautiful vintage pieces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>unused kimono<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and very well-maintained items.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One useful thing is that you can order online and have the kimono shipped directly to their Nagoya branch for pickup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I did this once and it made things much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another fun thing:<br>the Osu branch holds a sale every month on the 28th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People actually line up before opening time \u2014 sometimes even before 9:30 in the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-special-mention-kimono-off-book-off-bazaar\">4. Special Mention: Kimono OFF \/ Book Off Bazaar<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/embed?pb=!1m18!1m12!1m3!1d6523.057193392286!2d136.89679419357913!3d35.1683756!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!3m3!1m2!1s0x600370d393110e83%3A0x8e55648d2ed3e1f1!2sBOOKOFF%20SUPER%20BAZAAR%20Sakae-SKYLE%20Store!5e0!3m2!1sen!2sde!4v1779293877723!5m2!1sen!2sde\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" style=\"border:0;\" allowfullscreen=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Branches can be found all over Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are much more \u201ctreasure hunt\u201d style experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because prices are low, it is very hit-or-miss:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>sometimes you find amazing things<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>sometimes there is almost nothing wearable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You really need patience and time to search carefully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But occasionally, you discover something wonderful hiding between the racks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"my-biggest-tip\">My Biggest Tip<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you know your approximate kimono size, always bring a measuring tape when shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It makes an enormous difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Especially with vintage kimono, beautiful does not always mean wearable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learning your ideal measurements honestly changed the way I shop for kimono completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"final-thoughts\">Final Thoughts<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These are simply the places I personally enjoy shopping from the most at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Osaka, there are also many famous kimono areas such as Senba, but I still need to spend more time exploring there properly.
